B2B Marketers are "Losing sleep" from Job Stress
According to a an article published earlier this week in The Drum, B2B marketing directors are losing sleep over their jobs.
- 65% of senior marketers are more stressed in their job than they were a year ago and
- 53% say they have “too much to do with too little time.”
The study attributes the stress to the ways in which “competitive changes and choice” are driving “delays in decision-making” that place B2B marketers “under increased pressure to meet marketing challenges with innovation and creativity.”

Sress Rates Suggest an Increase from 2015 The recent study suggests a rise in stress when compared to a 2015 report by Workfront, which reported that 1 in 4 marketers describe themselves as either “overly stressed” or “stressed to the max.”
The 2015 study revealed that, when asked to name the top 3 things that made their jobs difficult, marketers gave the following answers:
55% Proving your value to people who don’t understand what you do
51% Juggling all of your work to get it done in a 40-hour work week
42% People who think they have great marketing ideas (but don’t)
36% Constantly having to put out fires
26% Stakeholder approvals
19% Going to meetings
9% Working with internal clients
Overworked and Understaffed
When asked whether adequate staffing played a role in the stress, those surveyed for the 2015 reported the following:
80% said they were understaffed.
17% said they were staffed just right.
3% said they were overstaffed.
The feedback on staffing corresponed with reports of workload.
While 20% of marketers considered their workloads either "under-loaded" or "perfectly balanced," an overwhelming 80% considered themselves "overloaded."
